Childhood
Maria Salgado was a child during the Cuban Missile Crisis who was living in the US but her family left Cuba. She remember when the announcement happened and her family reacted with: The world is going to end, and it had something to do with Cuba. She was seven years old at the time, and it was quite an impression. They sat and thought: Where would they strike first? They've had this - it was a sort of surreal conversation. Everybody fear that of a start of World War III.

Freedom of speech:
Freedom of speech is severely restricted, and Cuba has the worst freedom of access record anywhere in the western hemisphere. Cuba is a one party state, so differences in political thoughts and values cannot be openly expressed. Government permission is needed for virtually everything with the exception of free-thinking. Permission is needed for even the smallest things such as the desire to paint your house a particular color, or constructing an extra room in your house.
